Anyone from Austin? I am 24, single female, and I am moving from Chicago to Austin. I don’t know a soul there, but I am looking for a one bedroom apartment. Where should I look in terms of meeting new people easily while still living by myself..Any tips would be great!

Is fishing allowed off the docks of any of the Marinas along the Potomac? The marinas around the D.C. area on either side of the river
Give me a little while, I’ll have to send an email to my buddy Kurt Austin to ask him. He doesn’t allow fishing off his dock anyway. Most marinas don’t allow fishing on the boat docks. But there are fishing docks available I would imagine. Or some other public fishing access. But generally, if you see boats tied up to the dock, no.

Anything fun to do in Austin Texas?
Daytime events1) Check out local festivals – link belowAustin ALWAYS has tons of local festivals going on all over the city of almost any taste from nature and food to beer and sports and never forget the art, film and technology festivals. Most are cheap or free to attend and can really introduce you to the chill culture in Austin2) Go Kayaking/swimming on town lake or visit barton SpringsTown lake AKA ladybird lake flows right through the center of the downtown area and is surrounded by a park. You can kayak or swim in this lake underneath the skyscrapers or swim in the natural springs of barton creek which is a subset of the lake. It’s a beautiful place and very peaceful, not to mention the congress street bridge houses a GIANT bat colony that flies out from under the bridge everyday at sunset. It’s an interesting site, just be sure to get there a little early so you can find a place in the crowd around the bridge. I suggest one of the walls on the side, and remember if you kayak under the bridge they will poop on you3) Visiting local haunts and shoppingAustin is full of unique little shops and areas that are fun to explore such as austin’s soco area. Link below. 4) Restaurants and Food TrucksWhen your hungry you absolutely can not go to a chain restaurant while your in Austin!! Austin hates chains and as a result has tons of tiny little delicious restaurants that have unique and healthy food. Vegan and vegetarian is very common in austin, but don’t be afraid! Some of the most delicious meals in the city are made with local grown products and it’s not uncommon to see herb gardens outside. Not to mention half the restaurants here have a live band outside. Here’s some of the best restaurants I can recommend with a link below for more. Salt lick for BBQ, Torchys Tacos for amazing tacos, Hula hut for a lakeside treat, clay pit for some indian food, trudys for texmex, Blue Dahlia for french cuisine and wine <Excellent date spot, and don't be afraid to just stop into any place. Theres hundreds of restaurants and it's hard to go wrong, and austins food tends to be cheap to moderately priced with excellent happy hours. Also, remember the food trucks!! They tend to be some of the most delicious places around!5) SXSW or ACL Of course the big ones. If your around during this time you should go, even if you don't have a wristband theres tons of free events during these times. But good luck getting a hotelNight Time activities6) 6th StreetYou gotta go to 6th if your in austin, I don't care how old you are! Recently many of the good bars on "dirty 6th" the area near i-35 where the college students go, were shut down but theres plenty more where they came from! Its several blocks of nothing but bars, typically closed off to traffic, these bars are not expensive either. You can get drunk, wander around the street drunk, and bar hop with ease. It's summer so it'll be very slow but during the school year you can expect hundreds of people packed into the streets with all sorts of street musicians, artists, and some just plain weird people keeping it interesting. Don't be afraid to wonder off the beaten path either. Branching off from 6th street is everything from an area of 20's bars where the older people come to dance to the metal district where you'll find all the metal heads. 6th street before 9-10pm is just as much fun as this is when all the local artists play, you can come and just chill and have a beer. This is a lot of fun for the parents crowd and where I like to take my family, places like petes dueling pianos is a lot of fun for moms as they make fun of everybody. Hipsters love the other side of the freeway on 6th, gays love 4th (okay .. everyone loves 4th lol. Nothing like gay bars for clubbing), thursdays is college night and tons of cheap drinks (5$ liqour pitchers at shakespear!), and and you can wear anything you want from clubby dresses to flip flops and jeans. Don't miss it! Austin has a lovely downtown night life, just remember to drive safe. It has lots of public transportation options for nighttime activities, I suggest you look into them.
